03·Fair billing

What counts. What doesn’t.

We like to keep our pricing super simple, transparent, and fair. Here is exactly what counts and what does not.

The definition

Every MCP tool call counts as one action.

Reads count. Writes count. Allowed and blocked count the same. As Ultra’s coverage expands to native tool calls and beyond, those will count too. No surprises.

ultra // request streamlive
14:02:11.214tool_call·claude-codelinear.save_issue184ms

14:02:14.878guardrail.block·claude-desktopnotion.fetch6ms
window 14:02:00 to 14:02:153 actions

Blocked actions count.

If a guardrail denies an action, it is still billed. You are paying us to stop it.

Retries are free.

Identical retries inside a 60 second window do not count. We do not profit from stuck agents.

Guardrail complexity is free.

Write one rule or fifty. The meter only counts actions secured, not rules evaluated.

04·Calculator

Estimate your monthly cost.

Ultra cost is computed from your action volume, which typically translates to 1 to 3 percent of your LLM spend.

ultra // pricing.estimate
Monthly actions

The LLM-spend slider assumes about $0.05 per action at Sonnet or OpenAI mid-tier rates with prompt caching. Your actual correlation with model spend will vary depending on the models you use, your caching setup, and how chatty your agents are.

05·FAQ

Questions we get.

Pricing decisions surface a lot of follow-on questions. The five we hear most often are below. If yours is not, write us.

How does this compare to my LLM spend?

Typically 1 to 3 percent for Sonnet-class or OpenAI mid-tier models. Lower as you move to frontier models, where the per-action token cost is higher. If you run cheap-model automation and the ratio gets uncomfortable, we will set a predictable floor under an Enterprise contract.

Do you charge an SSO tax?

No. SSO and SCIM are included on every tier, including Free. Security infrastructure should not be paywalled.

How does billing work on Pay as you go?

You are invoiced monthly for the prior month's usage at $1 per 1K actions, from the first action. We alert you when usage crosses meaningful thresholds, and you can set hard caps in your billing settings. The Free tier still covers up to 5K actions per month at $0.

What if my agents use local or open models?

Same rate. The $1 per 1K is independent of your model choice. Ultra meters actions secured, not tokens consumed. Local-model heavy users are exactly the people who benefit most from a price that does not scale with token spend.

When should I move to Enterprise?

Two reasons. First, you need FedRAMP-aligned, on-prem, or private cloud deployment. Second, you want a negotiated rate, named support, and a contract that covers your volume and retention requirements. Talk to us whenever the deployment model or support level matters more than the published rate.
